Relocating is not an easy decision. Moving, even within a country, is a complex and costly process, and if you plan to live in the chosen country for a significant amount of time, it's better to understand not only its advantages but also its disadvantages in advance.

Pros and Cons

Arguably, the most important information about Georgia in the context of relocation is that it offers visa-free access to many countries, with the possibility of staying in Georgia for up to a year (list of countries with a permitted period of stay). After a year, you can apply for a visa extension.

Pros:

  1. Georgia is renowned for its magnificent mountains (the Caucasus), green valleys, pristine lakes, and the Black Sea coast. It's an ideal place for travel and active leisure. 
  2. Georgia has a rich history and culture, manifested in its architecture, music, dance, and national attire. The old town of Tbilisi and numerous ancient monasteries and churches are excellent examples of this cultural heritage.
  3. Georgia is famous for its wines and has a thousand-year tradition of winemaking. Here, you will find numerous wineries where you can taste local grape varieties and enjoy an authentic wine-tasting experience.
  4. Ease of doing business and a 1% tax rate for individual entrepreneurs, functioning and non-corrupt institutions, including the police.
  5. Georgian cuisine is a real delight for food enthusiasts. Georgian cuisine is a real pleasure for gourmets. Khachapuri, khinkali, dolma and, of course, wine.

Cons:

  1. In recent history, Georgia has experienced several internal and external conflicts, including in Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
  2. High unemployment rates and low incomes for many citizens.
  3. Despite some improvements, infrastructure in some regions of Georgia still leaves much to be desired, especially in remote areas.
  4. Traditional, conservative, and religious views are prevalent.
