Expats Land

Kus Tba (which means Turtle Lake in Georgian) is a small lake located at an altitude of 687 meters above sea level.

The lake is located in the Vake district, south of Vake Park. It is situated on the northern slope of Mtatsminda mountain. This small lake, surrounded by dense forests and green fields, is located far away from the hustle and bustle of crowds, as if hidden from the world's eyes. But despite this (or perhaps because of it), Turtle Lake has become a place of attraction for people seeking solitude and tranquility.

For those who love active leisure, there are also plenty of things to do at Turtle Lake. You can go windsurfing and sailing on catamarans, take a walk around the lake, and of course, go for a hike on the nearby trails.

Origin and name

The lake got its name thanks to the local inhabitants, who found their cozy home here - the turtles. However, over time, the number of turtles in the area around the lake has decreased significantly, and now they are quite rare. Another version of the origin of the name is the shape of the lake, which may resemble a turtle shell.

The lake is replenished from natural sources, the main one being the Varazishevi River, from which a small channel leads. In dry periods, the channel may dry up. At such times, the water in the lake decreases until Varazishevi replenishes its reserves.

Cable car

One of the most interesting ways to get to Turtle Lake is by cable car. It runs from Ilya Chavchavadze Avenue, near the entrance to Vake Park.

The cable car was restored and opened after a long hiatus in 2016. There are only 2 gondolas on the way, so waiting times or queues may take some time. The actual journey takes about 6 minutes.

Infrastructure

A running track runs along the shores of the lake, and for sports-minded guests, there are sports, football, and volleyball courts, as well as catamaran rentals.

Several cozy cafes are located around the lake. An unusual addition to Turtle Lake is the presence of a stage where various events and performances are held from time to time.

Located in the forested shore surroundings, Turtle Lake invites those who thirst to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life and restore harmony with nature. The infrastructure, although weakly developed, is sufficient for a peaceful rest and walks.
